I am a New Zealander born and bred and have worked from The Pelican Club for years on and off. I am sick of the discrimination the sex industry suffers from. I have seen lots of girls come in looking for work and being turned away because they were not born in New Zealand.
I have been reading about overseas immigrants who are being sponsored to work in NZ in the farming industry and seasonal fruit picking work etc. They are
bound to their employers for the time they are here and thousands of them are exploited by being paid minimal wages, and working and living in horrendous
conditions. They cant leave or change jobs due to the conditions of their visa.
My question is, why are women from overseas, who want to work in the sex industry (which is legal in New Zealand) deemed as illegal immigrants?? Where
is the proof these women are being mistreated?? There are thousands of farm workers and fruit pickers suffering at the hands of their employers, but
I have never seen or heard of anyone being mistreated at The Pelican Club. We are treated with respect. We have great working conditions and work in
a safe and supportive place, and earn really good money.
I believe anyone should be allowed to come and work here.It is a legal industry and we are being discriminated against once again.
